Star Coins are often found in secret areas or in various placements requiring the use of all the plumbers moves and abilities to obtain them. When revisiting a level after collecting a Star Coin, a blue transparent Star Coin will be in its place (similar to already-collected Power Stars in the 3D Mario games). When a Star Coin is collected, the player earns 1,000 points, and the Star Coin is displayed on the touch screen to indicate that it has been collected. In this game, three Star Coins can be found in each of the game's levels (with the exception of Toad Houses and Warp Cannons). Star Coins make their debut in New Super Mario Bros.
